FAQ

Where is your office?

You can find my office at the following address:

18600 Northville Road Suite 500 Northville, MI 48167

It shares a parking lot with the Dead Wood Grill, and you can park as close to the office building as possible.

This building is handicap accessible. There is only one small step, and upon your arrival, I can help you with this if needed.

How long are your sessions?
Sessions are typically 55 minutes.
How do I get started?

That’s simple.

What forms of payment do you accept?
The preferred payment method is cash or personal check; however, you may also pay using a credit card or HSA.
Do you accept insurance?

I can accept most BCBS, BCN, Aetna, United Health Care, Priority, and Medicare plans. I will verify your insurance before starting that way you will know the cost up front.

What is this Good Faith Estimate I keep hearing about?
If you are paying privately or using “Out of Network” benefits for your therapy, I will provide you with a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your care will cost. Under the federal “No Surprises Act,” health care providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the bill for medical items and services.

You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency services. If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill. Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate.
Do you charge for no shows or late cancellations?
The full fee for the session will be collected if you do not attend and I do not hear from you. Late cancellation within the 24-hour time period will be charged half of the amount of the session cost.
What are your COVID-19 policies?

I have a large office where it is possible to socially distance during our sessions, yet it still feels cozy. I run an air filter and disinfect in between sessions. The HVAC system also has high-grade filters to clean the air throughout the entire building. If COVID-19 numbers are high in our area, I ask that we both wear masks during session. If you are ill, we can change our in-person session to a virtual session easily.

With what age range do you work?
During our initial Zoom consultation, I’ll get to know your needs. I usually like to work with ages 14 and up.
Do you work with LGBTQIA community?
Absolutely, yes I do.
What is art therapy like with you?

I provide basic art materials as part of my fee. If you want to bring in something special, let me know, and I’ll tell you whether we can accommodate it at the office.

Then we get to the fun part, which is creating art! It’s really all about the process, not necessarily the product – so you can’t tell me you are bad at art. Creating art is a fundamental skill that we all learned when we were young, and it is freeing and healing to remember these natural skills.

Do you offer video sessions?

I offer video sessions as long as you’re in a private location with a good Internet connection.

My software program includes a very easy-to-use, HIPAA-compliant video-conferencing component.

How do I know if you are the right therapist for me?

You have to meet any therapist and work with them for a while to see if they’re the right therapist for you.

Usually, you get good vibes – a “felt sense” that it’s right – like a cozy sweater who occasionally calls you out on your “stuff” to help you.

Is our work confidential?

Our work is completely confidential – unless you are in danger or report child or elder abuse.

When I work with couples, I don’t keep secrets. If needed, I will hold information in confidence, but I encourage you to share – to build trust, work through issues, and get the best possible results.

Fun stuff
  1. Leave your mascara at home.
  2. I have plenty of tissue if you end up crying. You don’t need to feel bad about it – it means you’re benefitting from our session.
  3. I have two cats named Fawn and Serafina.
  4. I wrote my master’s art therapy thesis on the use of glitter by studying the use of reflective materials in art history. Yes, I did. Ask me more about this when we meet!
